Kyoto Menu + Rebrand
Branding + Layout + Typography
For this project I was tasked with choosing a local restaurant and redesign their menu in an unconventional form. I chose Kyoto Sushi & Steak and created a fan shaped wooden menu.
Process
I started by creating a mood board and color palette to help guide me in transforming their brand. I created a new logo with a custom Japanese stamp and tested out type pairings to compliment it.
Process
After I had a concept for their new brand identity, I began ideating on unique menu forms. I experimented with transforming Japanese objects and architecture into a usable form. I had a number of ideas for fans specifically, but chose one that had the best ability to contain the lengthy menu.
Process
Here you can see menu page layouts highlighting the grid, type styles, and organization systems. I chose to feature Lake Chuzenji by Kawase Hasui on the cover to compliment the restaurants interior, which features antique Japanese block print artworks.
